Courses for the general public

Premier Self-Defence holds 4 hour self-defence workshop every 4 to 6 weeks for the general public at our Kew Gardens venue. These courses are very popular so please book in advance to secure your place.

We have set out, below, an easy to use Frequently Asked Question list (FAQ) which we hope will answer all your questions such as: How much is the course? How do I book? When are your next course dates? How do I get there? Etc. If you have any other questions that are not answered below, please feel free to e-mail us on enquiries@premierself-defence.co.uk

Give yourself and option! Do a self-defence course! People who have been on our courses highly recommend us – please read our press section on the website or click here

Q: What is covered in the course?
A: Our self-defence classes are designed for the everyday person. All our courses cover personal safety awareness in your daily life as well as focusing on easy to remember and effective physical self-defence techniques.

The 4 hour workshop is an excellent all round workshop, focuses on awareness, avoidance & escape, verbal diffusion and highly effective self defence technique training. This includes participant application and practice. The Level One course covers the following

  • Personal safety talk & safety in your daily life
  • Drug Rape Awareness: Information on and the avoidance of the alarming increase of drinks being spiked to rob or sexually assault individuals (this applies to both men and women, 11% of drug rape reports were made by men)
  • Identification of risk situations and avoidance
  • Verbal diffusion skills
  • Weeble® information & training (our exciting new multifunctional personal safety aid)
  • Teaching participants practical & highly effective self-defence skills
  • Identifying target areas on an attacker’s body
  • Victim Mentality
  • Educate participants that they have choices when they are faced with an attack situation
  • Understanding the violent mind & the psychology of an attack
  • Breakdown misconceptions of rape/violence
  • Build confidence in your own capabilities
  • Information on & the avoidance of the alarming rise of drinks being drugged to rob or sexually assault individuals (this applies to both men & women 11% of drug rape reports are made by men)

Q: How many workshop levels are there?
A: There are three levels. We have designed our courses as separate units as people find it difficult to commit to training every week over a 4-6 week period. Thus to make the courses as accessible as possible we have split the course content into three separate 3 ½ hours modules. Thus when a participant is ready to move on to the next module they book at their convenience.

Q: Is this a martial arts course?
A: No, Premier Self-Defence has designed their courses specifically with the everyday person in mind basing its course content on real life safety awareness concerns and real life attack patterns we have studied over many years. Martial Arts is a sport and is not always practical when it comes to realistic, effective and easy to remember self-defence techniques.

Q: Do you train men and women?
A: Yes, we teach both women and men togethe, however, when requested we can teach these groups seperately and this is done for a couple of reasons, although our public workshops are mixed part of the workshop is focused on women and part on men for a couple of reasons. Firstly the patterns of attack tend to be different for males and females: Generally when a male is attacked the attack is usually from the front and invariably does not have a sexual motive compared to an attack on a female by a man which is often from behind and often has a sexual motive.

Q: What do people have to say about your courses?
A: Please go to the “press” section of our web site or click here to read what the press and general public have to day about our courses.

Q: How old do you have to be to do a course?
A: Our workshops are for people aged 15 years and upward with our oldest participant having been 76 years old! We hold separate workshops for men and women. Premier Self-Defence also does workshops for younger age groups i.e.: 8-11years old, 11-14 years old. Should you be interested in attending a workshop but you are under 15 years of age or if you are enquiring on behalf of a youngster who is under 15 years of age please e-mail us on enquiries@premierself-defence.co.uk or telephone us on 01293 418045 and we will be happy to discuss how we could put a workshop together for a group of under 15s either at their school or at our private training venue

Q: Do you have to be fit to do the course?
A: You do not have to be fit or sporty. Self-defence training is a life skill and not a fitness or martial arts class.

Q: How much do the workshops cost?
A: Each workshop costs £40 + VAT (17.5% = £7.00) £47 per head. Would you like a discount? Why not book with a friend or a family member and we will reduce the cost to £35 + VAT (17.5% = £6.13) £41.13 per person and should three or more of you book, as friends or family, then the cost is £30 + VAT (17.5% = £5.25) £35.25 per person. Please note: each individual in the group must fill out a booking form and needs to send a cheque. Doing the course with family or friends is a lot of fun. Click this link to open a booking form:
